The Limo Driver

It was Bonita’s idea to have Boss Lady get a drive about town after the spa before the next phase of surprises was delivered. This would give the gals a bit of time to get ready for their next contribution in recreating the fantasy Boss wanted played out. Juan like the idea too, it bought them precious margins of time. Boss Lady was extremely quick to pick up any hints of surprises. This night had been very stressful to execute, as Boss Lady was changing plans on the fly. Good thing Boss knew her thinking style well.

The spa run proved fruitless of course. There was no cellphone at the spa. There was nothing there at all, the whole experience had been totally wiped down. This, of course, caught the attention of Boss Lady, who surprisingly said nothing. Her mind was deep in thought. There was an air of sadness about her. Maybe, just maybe she was feeling what Boss had hoped she’d feel. Some kind of twinge of missing her man.

Juan offered to take the scenic route back home to help her unwind her evening. She took the bait. Left herself to drift into deeper thought. This was perfect. The most critical part of the plan was going to happen before they got back to the house. The detour would bring her back to one of her first dates with Boss. Somehow, somewhere, he was to get out of the limo and let Boss take over the drive. No one had much confidence this could be pulled off without Boss Lady knowing or suspecting anything.

However, the whole team trusted Boss to know how to make this work. The second phase of the night depended on this exchange working perfectly. This no phone business was proving to be total genius, because ordinarily, she’d be on it communicating and figuring things out.

Along the route, first stop was at a small mom and pop boutique. Juan explained that there was something he needed to pick up for his wife and apologized profusely for interrupting her moment of silent contemplation. While she did all she could to assure him it was not a problem, Juan knew that this was not customary service on his part and couldn’t help but wonder if this would tip her off.

The next two stops, for each different reasons, didn’t seem to change any of Boss Lady’s thoughts. She was lost in whatever was on her mind. What those two stops did however was buy time to configure the limo for the next twist of fate. Each location where they stopped, attachments were secured to the vehicle quietly. Had Boss Lady not been so busy thinking, she might have noticed something happening or someone hanging around the car too much.

That could have just been Juan’s paranoia talking. He never had to work on such a high level of sophistication outside a secured sound proof room before. Boss was on a level way above him.

Taking a turn to a long winding road, Juan made sure to get the limo precisely to 45mph. He rolled up the black out divide between himself and Boss Lady. Not that she’d mind, this was customary whenever he took calls. She knew he’d have the partition down momentarily, even with the tinted glass still up at her request.

As the road started to open up a bit and the landscape became a bit more barren, Juan flipped a switch that would light up two LED lights on the sunroof. This would be the guiding light for Boss. He nervously checked the GPS and his speedometer to ensure he was exactly at 45mph. Keeping the limo perfectly in the center of the lane, he waited for the flash of light on his dash to indicate his next move.

Tension building really high, Juan watched the road get eaten up. The switch would happen somewhere along the road, but he was not sure where and how. His eyes scanned and darted all over the place. With nightfall on them, spotting other headlights would have been easy, but there was nothing really to spot. However Boss planned to make the switch, it had to be dangerous. Transferring from another car quietly was not going to be successful. And it was very dangerous. This was not Hollywood.

The light on the dash flickered. It was time. Juan scanned about, but there was no one out there. He didn’t want to crank his head around too much less he drifted out of the center of the lane. The instructions were very specific. He had never let Boss down before. Not going to start today.

A second flicker of the dash happened. Juan reached up and toggled the switch to open the sunroof of the car. Looking up, he saw nothing but the night sky. There was no one around him. And just when he thought this plan had failed, a pair of legs quietly dropped in from the sky… hovered a moment… lifted up and out… then came back down much slower this time.
