The Naughty Texts

Charles had been on the road for several weeks now. His job had a low priority contract to close, and being that he was the last hire, it was his job to prove himself worthy of the food chain. As much as the work was nice, Charles hated the fact that he had to prove his manhood to a bunch of weak guys with bloated paychecks. The rough economy had put him in this position and it wasn’t sitting well with him.
The only upside to his current state of affairs was the fact that he was on the fast track to the top of the company. Soon, they would be taking orders from him, as it should have always been. So he kept telling himself every time there was a massive delay at yet another flight to work on the contract. There were several vendors and production sites that needed hand holding.
Charles longed to get home to his lady, Sue. She was the light that cheered up his day and made his moments disappear quickly into history. Sue and Charles had been together for a little while and their relationship seemed solid and growing fast. The travels was not helping however.
To make the time pass more smoothly, Charles had taken up one of Sue’s recommendations to read on flights where he was not in the mood to work on contracts and spreadsheets. All the books Sue had were of the romance variety which didn’t feel any better than spreadsheets to Charles. There was only one that he had read and enjoyed, and the rest never got a second look. This particular book had been about a truck driver who was trying to remain faithful to his lady by using all forms of creativity to keep their love alive and well.
This being the last leg of the negotiations, Charles felt hopeful that he’d be home in a few weeks to be with his Sue. Just as the smile started to form, an announcement overhead interrupted and announced yet another delay. Might as well try to get creative, because this delay just pushed back his going home date. No point in stressing about rescheduling, there wasn’t much to do but wait and then regroup the team to redo their timeline
Picking up his phone, Charles started punching in words that started to flow and become a bit of a lengthy document. As he reviewed the passage, her realized he was typing out a fantasy of his that had not yet been played out.
The idea struck. Matured. Took hold. Charles was going to write a mini romance novel for his lady to read as he traveled. This was to play out over a series of text messages. This could be a cool idea or it could be a time suck that would drive up their cellular data plan rate through the roof.
In the novel, Charles began telling Sue what he would be doing to her if he wasn’t on the road. Not the typical sex text variety, but more like weaving a story. He began describing a typical corporate work day for a workaholic. He’d get into details about how the photo on the desk reminding the main character of their first few dates. As the texts continued to fly, Charles got a bit more bold and raunchy
At one point, Sue wrote back informing him that it was a bit not fair to tease her with all this talk about life on the road, pretending to be some other dude, and not coming home for some time. It was making the wait too hard. The thought was appreciated, but the concept was a bit unfair to her.
