The original plan was to share an epic story today. A few close friends got to share their input on this majestic plan. The conclusion, I have to go back to the drawing board. Not that this was the advice given. They’re all super excited about this epic story that I’ve teased with them. If anything, they want it shared now. (pdf option, downloadable word doc option, multiple posts in one day option)
See, here is what’s going on. The story that was supposed to grace this blog is wickedly too long for a single post. There is no natural place to break up the story into segments and do another episodic set. Plus, the story is long enough to qualify as an ebook, but the behind the scenes work of publishing an ebook is not in place yet.
What is a writer to do? Especially on a writing break that didn’t actually turn into a full break? Worse, the next story from “Son Plaisir” is already scheduled for a later date. Could I just skip a posting week? Yeah… but why though.
So, here is the deal. I took a lot of painstaking efforts to prepare this epic story and I’m not thrilled with the execution of it. I’m going to take some extra time to massage the efforts and share it the right way. I could drip it out in episodes after some tweaks… or I can figure how to cut it down in size for a suitable blog post. Not sure yet how that will look.
the current story is 18 blog post pages long… way way way too long for a blog post
Instead, I’m going to apply one of the tests I’ve been working on and deliver a different story this week that will be printed in the Portfolio section as a sample story. Should the rest of the test prove successful, you’ll see the full story below the long winded introduction that is to come after this introduction here. So, without further blabbing…
Introducing The Lunch Date
There was talk of doing a joint effort story with “Son Plaisir” that never panned out. There was a lot of back and forth considerations about many subjects and plans. The resulting idea/story would eventually (indirectly) give birth to the “Dom vs Sub” series. Having no platform to share the story with, and not sure who would appreciate reading such material, the story stayed put in a hard drive file.
A few revisions later, a nod of approval from “Son Plaisir”, the final copy was forgotten and abandoned for several years. Recently, while doing some organizing of prior story efforts, The Lunch Date was discovered. How life has changed so much from that time. When this story was first written, it was considered labor intensively long. It was a massive epic story of less than 3k words that took two long weeks of daily toil to produce.
To think, today, in one lunch break, that story would have been written and published later that night on this blog… if so motivated to publish so fast.
The story will be presented to you in nearly identical form as it was prepared the day of the final revision. There were a few typos caught and fixed plus a few stylistic cues changed to make the story fit/read better. For your added benefit (or annoyance… one reader told me) I’ve inserted where the original page break points of the story were planned. I may remove them after the story has been read. You’ll find that they don’t coincide to where I now do my page breaks. The original ones were set before I had a blog and got comfortable writing very long posts.
I share this only to show the reader just how far I’ve come along as a writer and also to serve as a reminder to myself just how far I’ve gotten.
Despite the tone of the story, it is not reflective of any one person or situation. This is totally fiction and semi-joint collaboration with “Son Plaisir”. She provided a lot of the background information, cues, and hints necessary to craft this story. At the time, I had not done any research on the Dom vs Sub relationship and was unable to imagine what the woman’s perspective would be.
Thank you very much “Son Plaisir” for helping me in my very very early writing days. Your input has helped build my understanding and confidence in a genre that totally was taboo for me to write. Much appreciated. I hope this brings back the sweetest of memories of our many chats over the years. Enjoy “The Lunch Date”… after a brief explanation below.
The test…
After a lot of testing of “code”… I finally found a way to share the full story from the portfolio… click on the link below to continue the full story. Thank you for your patience as I learn more technical bits to blogging.
