Introducing When Ladders Traumatize

Ladder1

Welcome to a very different experiment in thought and writing process. Today marks the start of a mini-series that has been labored and tortured over for months now. How to ‘unleash’ this huge work that should be an e-book has kept many hours of sleep from me. So, today we start down this rabbit hole. Do enjoy. Take your time. May need to pause the writing schedule to let people breathe after this one.

Setting Up

Writing is about discovery… in this particular writer’s case. Trying new things. Uncovering old and new. Trying out ideas. Ideally, having a large follower-ship would greatly help understand how people react to the various pieces. Until that is reality, for now, the few loyal readers will have to endure the variety of writing that crosses the mind.

That said, the core play around BDSM concepts will still be essential for a while to come. Not foreseeing a massive change in direction anytime soon, today’s installment is part of testing new grounds and ideas.

Background

This story is based on real life events that took place in a far distant time and place… childhood. The core of the story is as close to truth as memory’s fade will allow. The artistic liberties taken is to make the story more enjoyable to the reader. One of the characters is totally fictional in composition. The others are representative caricatures of memories.

To go that far back in time was not very easy… a point that will become very clear once the reader enjoys the post. There are many unanswered questions about that repressed memory. Noteworthy, why did this memory come to the surface now? However, there will be no Monday morning quarterback therapy analysis going on.

The process of creating this piece, proved that testing new writing avenues can be fun and less daunting than once believed. Mercifully, this will not motivate the need for another blog 🙂

editorial note: I’ve agonized over how to share this story. Should it live on the portfolio side… do I break it into pieces… do I save it and deliver it as an e-book… do I release it in chapters? The story was supposed to be a quick short read to showcase my ability to write other genres… but it ran it’s own course. Because it’s such a personal story (despite the creative license taken) I was extremely timid about sharing it ever (a hint that I have to do this lol). I’ve re-done many page breaks and cliffhangers… in terms of format and cut-off locations… to help the reader enjoy the story better. Let me know what you think.

Introducing “When Ladders Traumatize”

Zoe had been kicking academic butt for quite some time. She dominated in every single class she ever partook in. Because her dad’s job made them move so much, she got very good at adjusting to all manners of curricula and beating all expectations. She was also blessed with not having social awkwardness that typically goes along with her level of genius.

Her ticket to freedom was that full ride to college. That was the plan. Get all the top honors, grades, accolades, and recognition so that she could settle down in one place and study for more than two years and graduate from that same place. That was the dream for college.

Along the way, she had made some amazing friends from all age groups. She had mentors in the adult category and mentees from the younger grades as well as solid friends in her class from all the various places she had been.

Her smoothness in social grace meant that she was frequently courted by many of the elites in town. They wanted her for their sons. Their sons wanted her for their black books. Few wanted her for her mind. Most wanted her for her connections.

She knew most of the power players of many cities. Her dad networked very well and she tagged along whenever possible. She’d sat in on planning sessions and weighed in on many civic counsels. She’d even helped shape the turn around for one of the school districts that wanted to create more elite academic students. This most recent feat made her the youngest activist and lobbyist ever to affect such a change on a school system.

Her most recent challenge was getting into this less than top shelf school. This was a tough one in that the caliber of challenge would not be what she was used to. It would be very easy to breeze through and shine bright. The challenge would be staying motivated academically while keeping her activism in healthy check.
