Proper Salute

The following scenes are based on a series of true moments. Enough changes made to protect the innocent. Now, to properly start…

I was called to participate backstage at an important event. My role was not of great significance, as this was a bit of a training ground for what would come at a later day. The details are that that important however.

Proper Salute

It is customary to properly introduce oneself with a handshake. The various gentlemen present were all feeling each other’s gravitas as the pecking order was being organized. The lead man, the MVP, was playing a very smooth game.

At first, the directions were too subtle for the average man to pick up. The few women who were allowed into the backstage area had their share of comments to make. They felt the guys didn’t know what they were doing and the show would suffer as a consequence.

I watched carefully and quietly. I knew my own stance as a gentleman. I knew that these gals were not the power brokers they tried to appear to be. In due time, they would get silenced. And as expected, when MVP spoke, everyone fell in line and took their places.

Star Performance

During the show, a woman got up and made a presentation that was most moving. It was impressive. She spoke with authority while using a very quiet soft voice. Her mannerism was nearly mousy. The words flowing from her lips whipping the audience in a frenzy.

If anything, I had to get a copy of the script. It was exactly what my blog needs. She was insinuating that men needed not heed the words of pop culture in losing touch of their masculinity. If anything, women needed the strength of a strong man who understood how to lead with love.

The women were lapping up the words and the men squirming somewhat uncomfortably. The truth had a way of rocking the boat. I had to confirm who this lady was.

Minutes before her speech… however…

There was a set of activities that took place before her speech started that caught my attention. At first, I was not sure what I had picked up on. It was nearly inconsequential. However, given how this lady was speaking, my mind had to rewind what had taken place.

When the master of ceremony called for this lady to speak, the MVP dispatched on of his right hand man to escort this lady to the stage. Once at the foot of the stage, he moved in and escorted her to the podium.

The manner in which he moved caught my attention. Subtle. A degree of pride. A swelling of ego. One could say that he was wearing his royal overcoat… emotionally speaking… as he led his lady to the podium.

Standing Ovation

The speech delivered, the room exploded with clapping and cheers. She moved everyone. I was near tears. This was truth that so desperately needed to be spoken. Now I had to get a hold of the script. But how?

As I waited my moment, I watched how the proceedings continued. A guy rushed up from backstage to escort the lady back to her seat. MVP had not given the signal for this. The snarl that erupted from his throat as he called his first lieutenant to cover his spot as he rushed to his lady’s side. The flurry of waved hands as he pushed his way past the over zealous guy could have easily been mistaken for fighting moves.

Most notable was the way MVP placed his hands around his lady. The degree of tender care and protection was very evident. The man was not hearing anyone getting close. He was making a very loud public statement that his lady was completely off limits. As he should. MVP was not MVP by luck. He had earned every single bit of territory.

The audience extended their ovation as MVP saluted the public before escorting his lady back off the stage. With a signal of the hand, one of his trusted guys rushed up and took over and led her to her seat as he took the microphone to continue moving the program forward.

Things soon returned back to normal and the show kept at a good pace.

Respectfully Saluted

Standing to my full dominant height, I figured it was time I made a move to get a copy of the script. I have to use it for content on my site one of these days, was my line of thinking. The words were magnificent. Many a man could learn a lesson or three from these words. Who knows, a lady or two might feel more empowered by them as well.

I saw my chance backstage. MVP was the center of attention calling over his men and his lady was off to the right surround by her group of ladies.
