Trapped… so to speak

Much later that day

Later that day, as Andrew wrapped up the set of meetings he had. His mind wondered back to Kate. How could he have allowed himself to be in such a situation. Kate had a man. She was happy with him. Why would he cause her any unhappiness by flirting with her and ruining her joy?

Andrew didn’t have a hard time with getting a date. He had no hard time keeping a few dates going. He just grew bored real fast at the lack of character and personality these women had. They were insecure or self-absorbed. They were weak or they were overbearing. There was always something fundamentally wrong.

Kate was different. She was strong. She was kind. She was funny. She was real. She was secure. She was confident. She did not have to prove anything to anyone. She was a solidly complete individual.

Kate, on her end, was wondering if she had pushed too far. The way Andrew had snapped back to raw power and professionalism had made her head spin. She thought she had made grounds with the man. But now she was wondering if she had damaged her chances with Andrew.

He was smooth but his exit was too smooth. The man acted as if there was no bulge in his pants. He acted as if he was not the least aware that he was in front of a woman his body craved and ached for.

OK, Kate felt she might have exaggerated her reading of Andrew, but all the signs appeared to be there at some point. Then. Vanished.

She had watched him very closely as he had walked out the coffee shop. His gait had started a bit forced. He was trying to be very meticulous and calm. Within a few steps, tension had vanished and his usual charming walk returned. He never turned back.

His ability to shut off any signals of romance was too polished and too strong to be that of a man happily married. The speed at which he pushed down his feelings had to be driven by something else.
