Dreams in Silver

The writing project(s) is still going in slow motion. The dream of resuming the silver lined words… is still alive. Sadly, the story affectionately called “The Story Behind Pink” is currently on hold. Life is demanding a lot of my time. Priority goes to being a dad… right now. But, whenever I’m able to pen a few words… I do.

Today… one short story… tangential to the primary story… is being told in honor of a fan of the blog. They had shared a few ideas that are worth exploring. For the sake of fun, I’m weaving it as an “outtake” that won’t make the book… but should be just as fun to read.

After all, who doesn’t dream of a little silver glitter in one’s fashion and life? Without further delay… let’s take a look into this bit of inspiration with regards to Kate and Andrew.

Dreams in Silver

Kate spoke her heart to her diary every now and again. Sure, the little book held a lot of secrets that would make her blush if it ever got released to the world. Of late, her entries around the name Andrew were taking up a lot of pages. Secretly, Kate wished that Andrew would take interest in her. Something about how he looked her way made Kate feel special.

Working together had been everything one would expect from working with anyone else. Kate felt slightly disappointed that there was not more. It didn’t have to be too much more either. Andrew was a kind wonderful man who was very focused on doing a good job. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t hurt to have a slightly more friendly relationship.

It was not like Kate was the only woman feeling this way either. Most people in most offices had a person they crushed on at some point in their career. Kate couldn’t say she was crushing on Andrew, she wasn’t, but the idea was wonderful and made up for sweet dreamy entries in her diary. Thankfully, it was just a good secret that would never come to light.

In Kate’s moments of retail therapy, the indulgent thought of Andrew approving of her fashion choices made her smile. It was really a foolish practice, a ridiculous notion, but one that made the shopping experience a lot nicer and smoother. If there was something that Andrew liked, Kate wished she knew. That would make dressing up for the office a lot more fun. Being able to tease every now and again without anyone realizing what was going on… would be a lot of fun. A girl can dream.

The Shopping Experience

There was talk about a team building trip at work. Part of the trip was supposed to have everyone see a part of each other that work would not facilitate. The banquet at the close of the event had everyone buzzing with nervousness. Who would dress like what and how upbeat would the theme be? Most days, the teams wore the company uniform. The few days people could dress in their own clothing, most went super casual.

It was clear that dressing up for a banquet was a big deal. No one knew why the boss wanted everyone to do a fancy banquet look, but to Kate this was a great chance to show off a part of her she enjoyed.

Fortunately, Kate was really great with shopping. It was not long before she found a dress that made her smile. It was more like a black sheath that would wrap snuggly around her figure. Last time she had a similar dress on, the compliments could have gone to anyone’s head.

Finding the right shoes was a different matter entirely. They had to be perfect. It was the only color Kate was planning to wear with her ensemble that night. Red, as beautiful and bold as it was, seemed a bit overdone of late. Red and black were common staples for dressing fancy. Purple and blue were starting to become just as common as well. Kate didn’t want to do nude heels either.

During one of the stops into one of the many shops in the mall, Kate stumbled on a flash of bright light. Closer inspection showed her that the display was covered with silver heels. They were gorgeous. It was the new color. Chrome to be more precise. It was magnificent.

A bit of blush crossed her face. What would Andrew make of her in silver? What did it matter? Kate felt a bit foolish. She had no relationship with Andrew. There was no reason to fancy him approving or needing his approval.

The sales lady saw Kate’s reaction and decided to make a move. Kate humored the lady a bit and soaked in the details of this silver pump. It was the envy of many but few could manage the height comfortably. It was a huge seller nevertheless.

The chrome sandals were just as impressive to look at. They were delicate, feminine, dainty, flashy. If anyone thought they could get away with not doing their nails with those sandals, they were making a tragic mistake.

As fun as it would be to see Andrew’s reaction to chrome heels, Kate felt that the banquet would be more enjoyable if she worried a little less about Andrew. Chrome heels would have to wait. It was time to find her own color that would make her happy for herself.

With a bit of a sigh, Kate turned to leave the store. Her eyes stumbled across something. With a pause, she looked more closely. She had found the perfect shoe. It was gold. Like chrome shiny gold. This was going to make the dress stand out perfectly.

After trying the heels and feeling satisfied with the fit, Kate skipped out of the store with a new feeling of joy. She was going to be a show stopper. Most of the women at the office felt very nervous about dressing up. Most never had dressed up much other than for job interviews. This was going to be easy. Kate would radiate and own the banquet. That is if Christie didn’t show up.

Kate felt like sunshine had been taken away and a heavy set of clouds rolled in. Christie was cool. They were cool. However. There was a certain feel that Kate felt whenever Christie was around Andrew. Worse, Christie knew how to dress for any and all occasions. If anyone was going to stop traffic, Christie was the one.
