Darkness Falls

Sometimes words aren’t available to capture a thought.

Sometimes, pain is just too great.

Darkness Falls

There are moments that feel like betrayal, but words aren’t available to accurately capture what really is going on. The word “betrayal” is too strong and too inadequate.

Yet, the emotions run dangerously close to that frame of mind. It’s a hollow feeling. A pit in the stomach. Much like when one hears the love of their life is leaving.

Only… they’re not gone. They’re right there. Smiling. Happy. Excited even.

They’ve made their point. They feel relieved. They’re glad to have finally gotten their load off their chest.

Now.. You’re sitting there holding the pieces watching yourself coming to pieces… while trying to keep a straight face.

Logics insists you have to move forward. They’re right. You’re wrong. But emotionally… you’re convinced you’re not wrong.

It’s strange. It’s painful. It’s daunting.

Options gone. Answers few. Questions many.

Only one thing is certain. The rug just got yanked out from under you. They’re victorious. You’re hollowed out. No where to turn. Nowhere to go. No place to hide.

You’re bleeding in plain sight and you’re the only one who knows you’re bleeding… and the only one who cares.

It’s that moment when darkness falls… and you’ve got to act like the ray of sunshine you’ve always been. Fighting the numbness. Fighting the dizziness of uncertainty.

You’ve been demoted from rock and security and been placed on time out indefinitely.

The rest of the thoughts are just a blur. One has to rebuild. One has to get back up. But one hasn’t fallen and one isn’t broken.

This is where poetry(linked below) steps in. Captures the notions. Creates a sense of motion.

That moment when darkness falls… and not the sexy kind either. That moment when you’ve got to slip back into your vault…
