Before We Get Started
The Story Behind Pink will eventually resume. Thank you for your patience. While the story behind pink is being matured into book form, a lot of edit work needs to be done. With life placing the demands it does, this writer will be sharing other story-lines that have not yet seen the full light of day. It made more sense to share other stories than put the blog totally on hold while the book was being written.
There will be other stories that will be made fresh for the blog as well. But, the bulk of time will be spent polishing the story for a book version. There are several things that need to be changed so the story flows better in a book form compared to a blog form.
for those who make it to the end of this post…hopefully you’ll be enticed to read the entire series that’s upcoming
A little… behind the story… history
A long time ago, somewhere in a college classroom, a student was being advised that his writing talent was not getting the necessary attention it deserved. During the exchange, the student was admonished to explore fiction. This student was an avid reader who enjoyed fiction but was trying to evolve to a non-fiction reader.
The transition was taking place because this student was interested in getting good grades. One of his high school mentors had persuaded this young man that fiction was not advantageous to read when working on a career. For the record, that advice was lacking substance. Fiction for the sake of fiction is just… fiction. There is a place for all genres of reading and writing.
In an effort to impress this teacher, the student set out to find fiction that would show this teacher that some fiction was not good or healthy to read. Finding one, this student shared the work and waiting for the verdict to fall in his favor. Seeing the teacher stammer, stumble, and struggle for words, this student felt his work was done. Fiction was bad.
It took the teacher a few weeks to mount a very compelling counter argument. Her position was simple. When authors take their readers far beyond their comfort zone, it allows the reader to dream possibilities they didn’t have access to before. When fiction inspires real life, a lot of changes happen. One such example was Jule Verne. Through his fanciful fiction… several credits his imagination for playing a part in the advent of the modern nuclear powered submarines. Many others credit Jule Verne as the father of science fiction.
Is there a direct link between “Twenty-Thousand Leagues Under The Sea” and the modern nuclear sub? No. However, when the book was written, such technology was not yet known to the average man. The other examples the teacher shared impressed the young student. In her conclusion, she admitted that the story given had introduced her to a concept that not only was foreign but unsettling. Through her research, she found a corner of the population who identified quite strongly with concept.
The teacher’s curiosity solidified in the mind of the student that fiction does have a place in the reading of scholarly pursuits. Furthermore, the student kept an open mind about the potential of writing fiction in the future.
This sent the student on a wild chase to gain scholarly understanding of this strange piece of fiction he had found. There were entire community bulletin boards on this… this was pre-Geocities and pre-modern internet browsers.
The story being presented, for your entertainment, is a combination of ideas that this research dug up. Some people have found ways to gain a lot of romantic satisfaction from a very unique adaptation of the damsel in distress. This sub-genre has several sub-specialties. If the readership is interested, a few posts can be crafted to explore elements of these sub-specialties.
It is such a niche topic that most have thumbed their noses in disgust. Some find it a wasteful shame. Others call it a form of craziness. To many, it’s a form of abuse afforded by too much time and money. To others, it has been the saving graces of their romance. For some, the beginning of a life long relationship of fulfilling love.
The story “Never Drink and Drive” (most likely called V8 of Eights) will explore a few parts of this sub-genre of kink. The original title considered made little sense to the test group of readers. The story is an homage to a writer, the one the student used to try and persuade his teacher that fiction was a bad idea for scholars. This writer had such a way with words. Drew the reader into the world he was creating and left you breathlessly amazed. You felt the emotions of the characters. You felt moved. You felt their sexual energy. You felt their struggle.
I am not able to do the magic this man did. I have read about fans begging this man to write more. He only released a handful of stories. Powerfully moving stories. Sadly, when the web graduated away from bulletin boards, his stories barely survived into the Geocities world. When those faded into history, I was no longer able to find traces of his work. Had I been able to, I would have given a link for you to read his passages instead of creating an entire piece.
This author could do with 600 words what I barely can do with 6000 words (actually took me a slight bit over 30k… now that I think about it). I am not trying to recreate his work in any way shape or form. I am not worthy, I do not have permission, I am not that good. However. This creation was influenced by him, and several of his contemporaries. I’ve mixed these influence with many personal experiences, research, and imaginative thinking. It is my hope that this series (one story broken into a series) will prove entertaining to you.
One last nugget of information… before a taste of what is to come… this was my first serious attempt at creating a work of fiction for publication. Since the college days, this is probably the fifth time trying to raise up my skills enough to write a story worth publishing. Turns out, this was the single biggest testbed for developing my writing skills. The version being shared is the last attempt to make this a novel. The lessons learned here gave rise to the aspiration of “The Story Behind Pink”. (there are no current plans to make this story into a novel… but the idea is not off the table either)
I’m now well on my way to becoming a published author. I’m very excited… and nervous too lol. I will say this… becoming an author is not as easy as I thought it would be. It is serious work, albeit a lot of fun. But, let me not digress here… a quick taste of what will come… has to be painted.
Let’s get started!
