The Opening of a Dark Vault

The Opening of a Dark Vault

There are moments when a partner will accidental hurt your feelings. Worse, there is no grounds for you to get upset and respond in anger. So, the hurt stays private. They were right, they meant well, they didn’t know. The ego got ruined, the mood spoiled, the armor nicked. In these moments, a gentleman is often tempted to emotionally retreat.

What does that look like? A man becomes emotionally distant and withdrawn. Modern women don’t lose much sleep about this anymore, or so they want us to understand. However, beneath the nonchalant attitude is a process that’s quite emotional.

The Darkened Vault Poetic Series” explores a few of the feelings experienced in the process of recoiling from pain and regaining stability to continue the relationship.

The last third in the trilogy begins next…

The Dark Vault Series

Opening Lines of Poetry

Standing at the dinner party
Watching with pleasure
He let his hand linger
The touch of her open back dress
Giving him life inside the party

Introductions
No drama or commotion
Watching eyes checking her locomotion
The pride he had in the very notion
She was his and he was hers

She laughed
He smiled
She handled in grace
He held her with poise
This was paradise

Jokes flowed
Masterfully moving
Feeling others wishing they were him grooving
They had a little secret
Commando below all glow in slow motion

Guiding her to their planned spot
A quick diversion to the terrace
Things were about to get really hot
All the pieces were ready
All she had to do was slip and slide

With the cued sigh
A flick of the watch
A wink of the eye
A nod and a passing goodbye
They were supposed to head over

It was going to be a sexy rendezvous
He had all the necessary hub a do
Even had the right cover set in by a clue
All she had to do was make a move or two
With a nod, he reminded her the plan they had agreed to

His ears picked up a different tune
He wisely backed off his fortune
Something had changed suddenly too
His lady connected with another for a drink or two
Confused, he stayed composed as a gentleman should do

His subconscious called a scary tune
There was an old vault that was needing a tune up
The cold air tried to clutch his throat
His lady had given him a subtle reproach
Not a clue in sight, not a signal of a clue

What was a man to do
His cover saw and knew
Something had gone wrong between these two
For the rest of the night
Might as well been a fortnight

His lady danced and enjoyed
He played the part without feeling overjoyed
Dreams dashed. Plans wrecked. Not feeling buoyed
He discretely asked what had gone wrong
She dismissed with a flick of the hand

He was left without explanation
There was no justification
It was her right, of course, by all estimations
A hint would have been nice, for a bit of clarification
Leaving the mind to ponder leading towards rectification

Something was different
Something had switched
The balance was held by stitches
A cold had washed over their intimacy
She was leading away leaving him trailing at bay

Later that week
When things seemed to have warmed a bit
He asked his lady what, if any, was missing
Baffled, she couldn’t understand what he was saying
Leaving him very little room to move this essay

The opening of the dark vault called
His heart slumped and faltered
She insisted he was making things up
So, the cold washed over
He smiled and thanked her

He was right… right?
She was right… too, right?
How could this be?
His feelings a mess
He felt in distress

Now… more than ever
He had to keep calm
The balance of their happiness
Could be decided if he lacked kindness
There was only one thing left to do for her highness

Give in to the call of the Dark Vault

Little did she know
As she watched her man smile and glow
The light was turning off
Darkness was falling
A heart, heavy, and cooling off

The opening of a dark vault had taken his heart hostage
It was his only means of protecting her
Because he loved her
And couldn’t risk venting on her
He listed to the call to protect her

That moment when darkness falls
A bad step here a bad step there
The opening of a dark vault
Was all it took, for his soul to slip into madness
