Nature Knows Best

The weather was incredibly hot. Why hike on this day of all days? Wat is an error or did Alex have a plan? All Evelyn knew was that it was extremely hot and the hike was just getting started. As a summer heat lover, Evelyn knew she’d survive, but her hubby, well, that was an entirely different matter. However this would play out, this was going to be a serious challenge.

The two canteens was not going to be enough. She trusted that he had made additional plans to stop along the way. They were leaving early by hiking standards and where ever they were headed would have to be reached before the mid day sun.

Alex and Evelyn has quickly settled into their marital routine as two professionally driven people. The memories of that glorious honeymoon night was starting to fade from memory. Things had reached an equilibrium that was sufficient enough to keep both of them content without pushing the comfort zone. Nothing spectacular, nothing big, nothing worth fighting about. Their sizzling start and fizzled into a comfortable suburban routine. The corporate rat race was in full effect.

Alex had insisted that Evelyn wear her Adidas leggings, which made no sense to her, but she had given in because his eyes looked wounded when she had initially refused. She was not going to wear only a sport’s bra as the top however. No, not at all. That was too much to ask. No amount of sunscreen would save her from the wrath of a beaming sun and worse, that was not safe in the wild where they were hiking anyway.

One needed to always be adequately covered in the wild. The thickets and bristles were not friendly to soft city kept skin. Let’s not talk about tics, mosquitoes, and thorns mixed with briers and thickets. Then, Evelyn knew there was the risk of tripping and falling. Not having good heavy hiking protection was more risk than she was willing to take. Bad enough that he had talked her into skipping her usual rugged hiking boots that could survive a combat war zone just fine. She didn’t mind the sneakers that much as they were quite cute though.

Because Alex had shown her the map of the area they were going to cover, Evelyn felt a bit more at ease about skipping the boots to use the new cute sneakers. Plus, knowing that most of the area was a bit desert like made it easier to accept the leggings as the dress occasion.

On his end, the poor desk jockey was not well dressed at all for hiking by Evelyn’s standard. His safari hat with his fishing jacket on top of his city branded t-shirt made Alex look like a clumsy geeky tourist on his virgin nature hike. The fool was going to get heat exhaustion fast and furious before they even walked to the edge of their suburban neighborhood. The cargo shorts was no better a choice and his military inspired boots were way too heavy. This was not going to bode well if the hike turned out to be lengthy. To his credit, Evelyn sighed, Alex did have many water bottles with him. Backpack filled with water, pockets in his shorts filled with water bottles, and two canteens on his fishing vest, the man was properly weighed down for heat combat.
