There is a certain mystery that eludes many men. The undercurrent of unspoken rules that governs the levels of tension between women. At times, things get so intense that women will often behave and dress for other women before they bother to address the desires of men. Not that women should live with the burden of pleasing men, but in some relationships, a little thought goes a long way.
Which is partially why it is very important for the men of this world to show their appreciation for all the sacrifices a woman makes for her relationship. Even the seemingly little things can be packed with untold efforts. A woman wears her crown valiantly and often times quietly. No one knows of the struggle or pain she suffers.
Red and Black
Ms Kitz never forgot the day she found out that Mr Bowe loved the color black. Men had ways to hide their color preferences beneath their impeccable suits or relaxed cargo shorts and tees. The showing of color was usually expressed in the fashion that women wore.
Often favoring bright colors, Alice enjoyed creative expressions of herself. When James took her out on a date to check out his favorite artist, the weight of gloom seemed to threaten the mood of their connection.
“Listen… Alice. Don is a great guy with a lot of talent. He can be moody. But you’ll love it” was the assurance James gave to Alice.
The date was happening in one of the trendiest streets for graphic artists. They used all kinds of medium to showcase their work. Stories flowed on pages to sidewalks and wrapped up on the side of buildings with epilogues on blogs.
All the brightly colored themes seemed to capture her imagination while James rushed her past all the various exhibitions and vendors. Eventually, they came up on a dark stall. These street vendors went out of their way to make their stalls look like the art of the artists they were representing.
“Are you sure we’ve gotten to the right place?” asked Alice as she tried to make sense of the dark horror inspired themes
“Oh. Yeah. That’s Don’s place. He is really good” James piped out over much excitement.
Once past the pressing crowd, the couple ducked their heads to clear some of the hanging art and made their way to the door of the building behind the stand. It was a spray painted black door. The entire hallway leading to the back was completely covered in black spray paint. There were slight variations of the color black to how a little bit of contrast.
“Why so dark?” wondered Alice.
“It’s so cool, isn’t it?” replied a beaming James.
The main room was sort of like a lobby. Dark browns, plenty of black, hints of purples, and a little moody crimson red. A few badly sprayed designs that looked like lips peppered the walls and ceiling of the otherwise black and gun metal gray room.
A man dressed in an 80’s era rock band suit stood up from the black couch and extended his hand.
“James!” Don exclaimed
“Long time!” James nearly shouted
The two hugged and patted each other very loudly on the back and laughed as if they had heard the funniest joke.
Alice watched and stepped back a few steps. She was the only significant color in the room. Dressed in a while dress covered with multiple colors of floral print, the limited lighting of the place reflected brightly off of her.
“You must be the gorgeous Kit-Kat” Don said as he took a polite bow.
Blushing a little, “Thank you” Alice replied with a slight upward inflection in her voice.
“Don’t be so unsure. You are more beautiful than your reputation gives you credit for” Don added as he nodded his head in a deep respectful fashion.
“Either my reputation is failing me or you’re flattering me” Alice responded as her eyes looked about the gloom of the place.
“If you wonder why so much black, you’ve only to thank your boyfriend” Don beamed with a smile.
“Really?” Alice puzzled
James, taking the cue, positioned himself like a conquering banker examining the acquisition he had made, cleared his throat to launch into an explanation.
Alice waved a hand and shook her head before James could start. She knew he was going to have a lot to say. He got very excited whenever he was talking about something he was passionate about. This would be something that bonded them throughout the course of their relationship.
Don spoke up as he saw the air being deflated from James.
“James loves the color black and asked me to do some art in his honor. He raised some of the initial funds and now that I’ve gotten a lot of success from it, I’ve created a daring piece in his honor” Don swiftly explained. “Please, follow me.”
The trio walked over to the back of the room where a black door automatically opened. Inside was a bit more colorful short corridor. On the other side was a bedroom. The shades were black. The furniture was black. The sheets on the bed were black. Carpeting black. The ceiling black as well. The walls were white and the visible floor was white as well. All the knobs and handles were a muted silver.
“Ta-da” Don said with a mischievous smile.
“I love it man!!” James nearly exploded with glee.
“Um… did I miss something? I just see a bedroom” a confused Alice replied.
“I will leave you two to discuss” Don said with a very naughty smirk on his face as he stepped out and let the door close.
“What was that about?” inquired Alice.
James didn’t answer right away. He was too busy buzzing about the place looking at all the details of the furnishing. There were open-mouthed, but silent, “ohs” made by his excitement. There were a few small fist pumps as details resonated with James. Alice was just lost and confused.
